Your holiday jewels

As holidays approach, my one -track mind means I’m mainly thinking about what jewellery to take on holiday with me.

Although they’re are a great excuse for dressing up, unhappy past experiences have taught me it’s not a good idea to take your valuable or most sentimental jewellery away on your jollies with you. Having your previous treasures lost or nicked while you’re away could put a real dampener on your holiday and R&R time is too rare and precious to risk ruining it. Also, if you love a beach break, sea water and sand can play havoc with fine jewellery. And as much fun as diving is, the added adrenaline of “will I find my lost expensive diamond earrings on this submersion” isn’t very welcome at all.

This page is all about jewellery that lasts, we’re definitely not into throw away options here. But long lasting jewellery doesn’t have to be expensive. So let’s look at some pieces that have durability without an expensive price tag.

Stainless steel CZ tennis bracelet

Stainless steel is a great option for jewellery. It shouldn’t cause allergies, is durable and  waterproof and being silver-coloured, doesn’t have a plating that would wear off over time. Tennis bracelets were so called after Chris Evert lost one in the 70’s while playing a match. They’re as casual as you can get a diamond bracelet, I wear a CZ version most days to add some sparkle to my stack. This Amazon version ticks the stylish, affordable and durable boxes so winner all round.

Sterling Silver CZ Halo Jacket Stud Earrings

To go with your tennis bracelet, let’s choose some CZ earrings. We’ll go for a super versatile pair with a detachable halo jacket so you have casual or more dressy choices. The detachable CZ jackets can be used to bling up other stud earrings you may have, just as long as their diameter is smaller than the jackets. Being set in solid sterling silver , unless you have very unluckily sensitive skin, you won’t get any skin reaction to them and they won’t turn your ears green.

Accurist Stainless Steel Diver’s Watch

For a watch, you’re best taking a water resistant model so you can keep it on while you’re swimming. This Accurist model is waterproof to 50m, has a chunky stainless steel strap and the blue mother of pearl face gives it an glitzy iridescence that will mean it also won’t look out of place on your wrist when you’re out for a fancy schmanzy dinner. At £100 you get the quality that means it should last for years but you won’t be completely gutted if it does go astray while you’re holidaying.

Moissanite Trilogy Ring

If you’re lucky, holidays mean sunshine, And the chance for your jewels to sparkle. So let’s look at moissanite rings because  with a refractive index of 2.65, moissanites sparkle even more than diamonds  with their meagre 2.42 RI. Moissanite’s a naturally occurring silicon carbide but the specimens you’ll find in jewellery are lab created, far better for the planet than mining. The US company Charles and Colvard had the patent on it until 2018 but since then as the patent expired, all bets have been off and the competition means that prices have tumbled. So beautiful, sustainable, economical and with a score of 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale, also durable. The perfect gem for your holiday ring.

This trilogy ring from LFJUK from Etsy gives you the balance you need to glam and practical. With trilogy rings spreading their carat weight between 3 stones, you get loads of sparkle without the showiness of the equivalent carat weight of a solitaire. Just looooook at those flashes!!

Sterling Silver Herringbone Necklace

Necklaces, lets go for more sparkles to catch the sunshine. Herringbone chains give you that flash as they get hit by the light but this time without stones as it’s the cut of the metal that causes the sparkle.  The photo shows three necklaces, you get one. That’s unless you want to buy all three for the layering options

Chalcedony Chandelier Earrings

Statement earrings are my go to when it comes to choosing one hero piece to take away. They go with all necklines and they won’t be hidden by sleeves if you’re covering up from mosquitos or a chill in the air. This chalcedony pair have the lovely summery blue colour to echo your watch face and will give some serious boho glam vibes to your evening outfits.

Travel Jewellery Case

These pieces are all one and done so you could just take them and nothing else. But if you’re anything like me you’ll actually end up taking a few (loads) more pieces just in case. If you do, make sure you have a travel case to keep them secure and organised. I love this one. Lots of sections and not too bulky plus a choice of colours to make sure you’re really happy with it. Pop a polishing cloth in too so you can wipe down your jewellery at the end of the day so it doesn’t get dulled by sun screen

Hope this has given you some ideas on what to take and that you have an absolutely fabulous holiday!
